I'm not great at these.
Not many kids I know had to move around over 32 times before graduating high school. So much came and went but never art, it was one of the only things in my life that stayed. More than that, it grew with me.
I was very withdrawn by the time I was a preteen so I naturally gravitated towards the computer to connect with others. I found Neopets which was the source of inspiration that sparked a desire to learn to code and create art with Photoshop.. This led to a web design certificate, and ultimately a BFA from SCAD.
Though I never found a traditional job in my field, In 2019 I created my own studio Strange in Nature, which serves as a launch pad for community based work such as Open Calls Seattle, the SEAPoleProject as well as my personal excuse to embrace my own style.
Art for me is not just about expression, but a way to survive, be seen and connect. Because of that, one of my core values is that I think art should be accessible to not only view, but to make, and afford.
I work across different mediums because I've come to realize I use them to express different feelings or ideas. Different painting mediums, printmaking techniques, illustration, or even cross stitching are all mediums I use with an intention to communicate. I often don't have a particular style, but an intention to get things out and blend different mediums together stretching their and my possibilities. I use Graphic Design to solve problems, give voice and inform. Design, in its many forms keeps me structured and allows me to know where those lines are in order to stretch them.
